Multiple monitors make it easier and more effective to work with multiple applications. You can easily write code and read documentation, work on a web page and preview it in one or more browsers, or do research on the web using multiple browsers. Multiple monitors also help with applications that have lots of toolbars: you can move the toolbars to a different monitor, or extend the application across two or more monitors.
"Couldn't live without them. They're great for having Outlook open all the time and being able to respond to things instantly."
"I can have several image manipulation products open at the same time, so that I can quickly move the image around to get the effect I want, as most are good at specific effects. I can also have several browsers open, so that I can see what the images and text of my website will look like."
"Everything. I can't work on a one monitor system. :-) Mostly I use Homesite, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, Outlook, Browsers, Telnet and a buch of other Internet related software. For those who do not use multiple monitors and high resolutions: DO IT!"
"Gaming, web development, digital imaging. Plain and simple, it increases my productivity and enables me to multi-task more effectively."
"I use mine for programming, particularly for debugging Visual Basic in Excel (step through the code and watch the worksheets change!). I also use it for cut and paste between applications when creating
publishing documents, and when updating databases. I'd miss it if it went away."
"My primary use is for Autocad drawings. I can work in detail on one screen, while keeping a larger view of the area I am working in on the other monitor. I believe it will be even more useful in working in 3D
architectural models. I can work on the plan view on one screen while viewing the resultant changes in a 3D view on the other monitor."
"The best thing for me is Outlook Express can be stretched to cover both monitors and by doing so you can put the preview window on the second monitor with the list of messages on the primary. This same technique works with RegEdit and a lot of other apps that have information that will not wrap. I used to have 3 monitors and miss the third one now that I put it on another computer."
"I use dual monitors for the standard stuff such as e-mail, web browsing, very wide spreadsheets, word processing cut & paste, photo editing, etc. But what I really like about it is the ability to view wide, panoramic photos that I create. Two monitors is great, but three would be even better!"
"Great for web design, two monitors, main one 1024x768 for designing, 2nd one 800x600 for more realistic previewing. And because no icons etc. are on the 2nd monitor, it's quick and hassle free to keep changing resolution/colour depths to check web pages. I only have room for two but I'd find it hard to go back to
one."
"I'm just getting into writting html files and it sure makes it a lot easier having the web page on one monitor and the text file on the other. Just do a save on the text, a refresh on the web page and see if what I just wrote works or not. This, to me, is a lot easier than searching around for different windows, especially when you also are trying to get info off some of the sites that help with html. Another thing I like is I can be chatting on AOL and surfing the internet without having to keep switching screens. Or surfing and writing or reading e-mail. Viewing Photos on one while editing something on the other. I only use one monitor at work and after getting used to 2 it is a real pain with only 1."
