Installation and troubleshooting

Basically you just need to install your new video cards and restart the system. In the best case, Windows will install the correct drivers for the new cards and enable them. If you are not so lucky, read on below for troubleshooting tips.
Important: cards with TV tuner/video-in functionality may have to be primary in order for the TV/video features to work.

Check Display Properties to determine the cause of a problem
Open Control Panel > Display and switch to the Settings tab. If the additional monitors are listed, select the monitor and make sure that 'Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor' is checked. If the monitors aren't listed, there is a problem with the driver or video card.

Using Device Manager to troubleshoot problems with video cards
Open Control Panel > System, and go to Device Manager. Your video cards are listed under Display adapters. Check if one of the cards has an exclamation mark next to it. Usually this indicates that you haven't installed the correct drivers: try installing the latest drivers from the board or chipset manufacturer, or use the default drivers provided by Windows.

ATI video card: 'Multiple Display Support cannot start on this device'
This problem can be fixed by modifying System.ini. See ATI Support for the solution.

Older video cards on Windows 2000/XP and later: 'Device Cannot Start error 10'
Older S3, ATI and SIS video cards need to be the primary card in BIOS on Windows 2000/XP and later. If you have just one such card, you can get around the problem by setting it as primary in BIOS, then setting your better card as primary in Display Properties.

Changing the BIOS primary card: look for a BIOS setting named 'Initialize First', 'Init Display First' or similar. In the Award BIOS, the setting is 'Init Display First' under 'Integrated Peripherals'. If your BIOS doesn't have such a setting, try to get an update.

When the setting is set to PCI, the first PCI video card found will be used as primary. This is the PCI video card in the lowest-numbered slot, the one nearest to the AGP slot.
