I'm using the trial version with a 3.06 hyperthreading Intel CPU, Intel motherboard, 1GB Rambus RD1066 RAM and an Adaptec 29160 SCSI card. It significantly slows the machine and has been causing bluescreen crashes with a message "page fault in non paged area". Are you aware of a similar problems? Darryl

What driver is causing the crash? The driver name should be listed next to the error message.

I didn't note the driver number so I'm busy considering whether to reinstall Ultramon and then wait for another crash. Unfortunately, it has on occasion corrupted my Outlook files and requires quite a lengthy repair. Is there anything else you can suggest without the driver number? Regards and thanks Darryl

My guess would be that it's an issue with the display driver, maybe it has problems when the UltraMon mirror driver is installed (for the mirroring feature).
Did the system crash when using mirroring or monitor preview, or just randomly?

I've reactivated Ultramon and ensured that mirroring is disabled but where do I find monitor preview? Darryl

Monitor preview is part of the Mirroring feature.

I reactivated Ultramon and all was good for the day. It's a brilliant piece of software.
This evening I couldn't launch PowerPoint as it kept on crashing before it opened, then I couldn't log off and switch users as I got two black screens and i I had to reset the machine. Next I rebooted again and Outlook kept on crashing and finally IE crashed and closed. I deactivated Ultramon in MSCONFIG and now all is well again. Darryl

Unfortunately I don't know what would cause this, the mirroring feature was the most likely cause of conflict.
For the moment there is nothing else I can do, but I'm going to work on a diagnostics tool later this month, once this tool is finished it might be useful for troubleshooting on your system.

BTW, I don't think the problem is related to an issue with UltraMon and hyperthreading, I always use dual processors for my workstation, and currently have a dual Xeon with hyperthreading enabled (for a total of 4 CPUs).

Thanks, I'm determined to get it working because I'm hooked. I've so far removed Microsoft PowerToys with fast switching to see what happens. I've also removed Norton Speedisk, have you ever had a conflict with Symantec products? Darryl

Darryl Phillips 2003-02-03 18:02
Perfectly stable until I just reinstalled Symantec Speedisk and optimized. Bluescreen within 3 minutes with the following message:
STOP:C000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows subsytem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xC0000005 (0x7fe7a4de 0x0069f558)
Any ideas?
Sorry to drive you nuts but I'm determined to use Ultramon.

Difficult to say what would cause this, it seems unlikely that UltraMon could cause a kernel crash, especially if mirroring isn't installed.
Unfortunately there is no trial version of the Norton Utilities, otherwise I would give it a try myself.
BTW, what operating system are you using?

Windows XP Professional.
It definitely appears as a problem with Norton Speedisk and occurs even if the program is merely installed on the same drive.
The work around I'm using is to install Speedisk on my second SCSI and reboot after optimisation and before using any apps.
Thanks for the assistance. Regards Darryl

Hi, I had that same problem with the page fault blue screen. I tried for an entire day to get through the install without rebooting sporatically and/or blue-screening.
I thought I would let you know that I seemed to work around it by disabling the hyper-threading when I installed, then installing sp1, and all the other updates, along with the motherboard utilities (I have a gigabyte knxp/p4 3.06ghz/800gsb). If you disable the HT, winxp seems very stable. I just enabled the HT in the bios and so-far, so-good.
