Hello,

I am taking delivery of my new Matrox G450 video card later this week.

I am new to the multi-mon experience, so I am wondering if I should get the Ultramon software. Will it be of benefit on a single Dualhead video card or is it more suited to dual video card configurations.

Thanks for your input.

Cheers,

On Win98/Me, UltraMon will work just like with a dual card configuration, except that disabling/enabling the second monitor currently doesn't work on Matrox dualhead cards.

A trial version of UltraMon is available for download. This has all the features, but will stop working after 30 days.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the info. I should have mentioned that I am using Win2K pro as my O.S.

My monitors are 2xSony CPD-G400's.

Thanks,

Thomas

Unfortunately, UltraMon won't be of much use with a Matrox dualhead card and Win2000. Win2000 sees the G450 as a single monitor instead of two, and so does UltraMon, which means that all the features like moving windows from monitor to monitor, different screen saver on each monitor, etc. won't work.

The Powerdesk software that comes with the Matrox dual-head cards lets you create schemes accesible by hotkey. I created single mon and dual mon schemes as Ctl-Alt-1 and Ctl-Alt-2, and just switched to single when I played games.
