Forums -> UltraMon™ -> UltraMon only detects one monitor...suggestions please :)

I have a Sony Vaio laptop with an Intel 82815 Dual Graphics Controller (latest driver installed). The secondary monitor is a Viewmaster 15" TFT LCD. Windows XP is ok with both monitors and the Intel lets display both, but UltraMon only detects one so I can't use any of its cool features. I read the help file re this issue but the work arounds suggested did not work. Any and all suggestions most welcome..thanks in advance :)

If you go to Display Properties > Settings, do you see both monitors listed? See this screenshot for an example of how Display Properties should look like.

Thanks Christian. Unfortunately not, the settings tab only shows a single screen in the shape of a computer desktop (which I think is the standard XP tab). Also, the two check boxes below the "resolution" slider bar are absent.

However, a few interesting things to note:

1. In Settings the "display" is described as "(dual monitors) on Intel 82815 Graphics Controller".

2. Under the "Advanced" options there is a tab called "Intel Graphics Technology". That tab allows me to choose to display either the laptop, LCD monitor or "dual display twin" (i.e both).

3. When "dual display twin" is selected I can also choose which display is to be the primary and display and which is to be the secondary display.

There is no option on my settings tab or elsewhere that prompts me to extend my windows display on both the laptop and monitor, but I assume that this is similar to the "dual display twin" option.

Hope this provides some further insight into the problem.

Looks like the drivers don't have true multi-monitor support, meaning that the operating system (and UltraMon) only recognize a single monitor instead of two.

This is odd though, most Windows XP drivers have true multi-monitor support. Unfortunately there is no solution for this, Intel would need to add DualView support to the drivers.

Thanks Christian...I think you're probably right. I've been to Intel's web site and installed the most recent driver, but this doesn't change the "dual view" it supports i.e a twin of the same screen! How lame is that? I'll email Intel though and see what they have got to say.

I have got the next problem ;)
Can somebody please help me with this, getting a bit frustrated...
I have the Intel 82815 Graphic Controller (not EM) and here
they say I do can use the Extended Desktop function in Windows XP, but i can't. Any suggestions? Please?

----------------
Extended Desktop

* One use for multi-monitor is to allow for a large Windows* desktop that spans multiple displays; creating more screen real estate than a single display provides.
* This feature is not supported by the Intel 815EM chipset.

Make sure you have the secondary monitor enabled, either via the Intel software for the video chipset or Display Properties > Settings.

Thanks for the reply.
I have been looking for that all the day yesterday, but there is no 2nd monitor displayed. It sais:
"more than 1 monitor connected on Intel ...."
But he shows me only 1 (so not like the screen given above). I trew my hope away, but thanks anyway :)

Does the Intel software for the chipset have an option to extend the desktop?

You should have an icon for the Intel Extreme Graphics software in the system tray.
