Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Have all monitors enabled, but only some "active"

This is a long description for a feature that I hope will be easier to implement, than it is to describe. :)

This is my setup:

Computer room:
Three screens
Soundcard 1

Movie Room:
Projector
Soundcard 2

I tried the application BeTwin that was recommended in a thread here. A very impressive application that makes it possible to work on different screens with separate mouse and keyboard as if you were on two separate computers! Two persons using one computer at once, for instance.

However, I don't want to have two people on one computer, instead I want to use one computer for two different things (but not at once). I may be working in the computer room, and then change location to the movie room.

In BeTwin I can't move application from one session on my computer, to the other. Most of the times I have started an application (i.e Mirc), and when I change location (from computer room to movie room), I want to take that application with me without exiting it in one session and starting it again in the other session. So UltraMon works better for me that way. When I change the display profile, any opened apps are moved to the now active monitor(s).

However, this means I have to take ALL applications with me when I change display profile and move to the projector room (with only one small screen compared to three large). Lots of application on a little screen is the result, unless I close most of my windows when I move.

What I would like to do is to have all screens enabled at once (computer room + projector room), but I would like to be able to set the "active" screens. So when I tell Ultramon that I am in the computer room, it ignores the projector screen. The monitor in I have configured to be primary in the computer room will be primary, and all the current settings I have set in UltraMon will still be true. It's just that I shouldn't be able to move the mouse pointer to the projector, no windows should be opened on the projector, etc (since I can't see the projector). But I would still like to be able to fetch windows from the projector, and send windows to the projector (without actually being able to see the projector).

When I switch to projector room, the projector becomes primary monitor, and mouse pointer can only be on the projector, etc. But none of the applications are moved from the computer room to the projector room. I would have to fetch the apps I want to move to the other room with the fetch thingie.

To sum it up, I would like the following features:
- New information in the display profile: Which monitors are "active", that is, can have the mouse pointer on them, and can get new windows on them.
- Being able to fetch apps/windows from an inactive monitor, without being able to see the inactive monitor.
- Being able to send apps/windows to an inactive monitor, without being able to see the inactive monitor.

There's no need for separate mousepointers, being able to work in both locations at once, etc.

Could this be done?

Since I have one mouse/keyboard combo for the computer room, and anoter (wireless) mouse/keyboard combo for the movie room, it would be nice to also be able to "connect" mice and keyboards to a specific display profile. When a key is press on a keyboard, or the mouse is moved, UltraMon would activate the display feature for that keyboard/mouse.

Thanks for a very nice application. :)

Thanks for the suggestion, will be considered for a future release.

UltraMon already has some support for this: under UltraMon Options > Ignored Monitors, select the monitor you want to ignore, then check the 'ignore enabled monitors' box.

You won't be able to move applications to the ignored monitors though.

Thank you for your response. :)

I've tried the Ignored Monitors feature now, and it would work just fine if:

- They were part of the display profile, so you could change which monitors were ignored when you change display profile.

- When I change primary monitor, but keep the same monitors enabled, the main taskbar (the one with start-button and tasktray) doesn't follow the primary monitor. So part of the display profile would also need to be which monitor should have the main taskbar. In fact, I think the UltraMon taskbars should also be configurable in the display profile.

Thanks.
