Why is UltraMon $40 when there are other utilities out there that do pretty much the same thing for FREE?

UltraMon does a lot more, see the Overview and UltraMon Features for more information.
A trial version can be downloaded here.

The "lot more" are really uneeded features. I would bet most people only care about 3 things: 1) the second taskbar 2) the button on the title bar to move the window 3) Hot keys

No one's holding a gun to your head, use the software you like best. Seems simple enough. ;)

Problem is he likes the "unneeded" features and wants them for free. Spend the money, I've been running dual monitors since '98 and this software is worth every penny.

no Jim, the problem is i don't care for the *uneeded* features and don't want to pay for them.
i think ultramon should sell a cheaper version stripped down to the taskbar, move monitor button and hotkeys.
i've been using http://www.mediachance.com/free/multimon.htm for a while now with very few problems.. and it's free.. so why should I pay $40 for ultramon?
ultramon is a better product, but it's not worth $40 for those 3 features.. it's worth $19.99 at the most.

since you seem reluctant to spend the $40...i'd say contact Multimon or the writers of these other free utilities you talk about and ask them to put the features you want into them.

Well, that's the great thing about software - if you don't like it, don't buy it. Splitting software into multiple pieces is a LOT more work than it sounds. The price diff between $20 and $40 is so little, I completely understand why they don't offer a scaled down version. You've wasted $20 worth of time talking about it.
Past that, I'd pay $100 JUST for the taskbar pieces - I've got 3 monitors and it freaking rocks - I couldn't live without it.
