Enabling/Disabling it does nothing to get it to show up again. Any other steps I can take? After I installed the demo it was there and was perfect, but after I rebooted it will not re-enable.
Thanks, Kuz

Try resetting the Smart Taskbar configuration, this should fix the problem.
To do this:
1) close UltraMon via UltraMon menu > Close
2) open regedit.exe
3) select the registry key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\Smart Taskbar' and delete it
4) restart UltraMon

No such luck. I see it put that key for the smart task bar back in the registry after I opened it but the task bar is still not showing up. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Some things you can try:
- after UltraMon has started, open Task Manager and check if UltraMonTaskbar.exe is listed on the Processes tab
- run EnumShell and post the log file contents here or mail them to support@realtimesoft.com

UltraMon.exe is listed as a running process. All the other features appear to be working fine as far as I can tell so far.
Here is the output from EnumShell:

Well...it doesn't seem to have the issue when I log in with a new profile. If you don't have any quick fixes for what I could change/clean in the current user profile I will just working on moving my data to a new profile and trying out this program.
Thank you for the help.

Looks like the Smart Taskbar fails to start, for further troubleshooting you could do the following:
1) download DebugView
2) after extracting the ZIP file, run Dbgview.exe
3) close UltraMon, then start it again via the shortcut in Start menu > Programs
DebugView should now show an error message from the Smart Taskbar. Please copy the message and post it here.
I don't know why using a new user profile fixes the problem, seems odd.

Well I cleaned out the user profile and it seems to be running fine now. Not sure what in the profile was causing the issues but I deleted my folders under application data and local settings I think to clear up the problem. Something was foobar'd in there I guess because all seems well now.
Are there any options (or addons) to add features like a clock to the smartbar or is that something for the 3.0 version that I have read of in here?

I'm having the same problem. When I first installed Ultramon, it came up perfectly. Then I switched my primary display from the center monitor to the left monitor. From that point forward the extra smart taskbars have disappeared. I've tried uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling twice now. Then I started following the suggestions on the registry settings all to no avail. I've downloaded DebugView: The message I got when I restarted Ultramon was:
[3380] TaskbarManager::CreateTaskbars: WinTaskbar::Create failed

Brett Phipps 2004-07-08 01:41
Decided I should also post the ENUMSHELL LOG:

Any help will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

A clock for UltraMon taskbars is planned for UltraMon 3.
Brett: the problem seems to be WinDate, disabling it should fix the problem. I'll look into adding support for this in the next release.

Well...it worked OK after clearing the profile for a couple days now its back to doing the same thing. I am unable to run Debug view...says its incompatible with my version of windows. Other suggestions?
Thanks!
|
Christian Studer 2004-07-12 07:01
Maybe it's a compatiblity issue with some other application, which only occurs if this application is started before/after UltraMon. Did you have all your background applications running in the new profile as well?
Regarding cleaning up the application data and local settings folders: seems unlikely that this would affect the Smart Taskbar, all configuration data is stored in the registry.
BTW, what version of Windows are you using?
Christian Studer - www.realtimesoft.com

DemoUser 2004-07-12 07:50
Yeah, I was thinking compatibility issue as well, but I have everything running now that I had when it was and wasnt working so it doesn't seem to be the case. This is the RC2 of sp2 for XP Pro that I am running.
One little thing I have discovered in the event viewer is a problem is a driver that doesnt seem to be loading when I have problems with ultramon. I cannot find any information on the driver searching tho so I am wondering if it is an ultramon component of some sort.
Event Id: 7026 The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: rxp
I have no clue what "rxp" nor can I find any information about it.
|
Christian Studer 2004-07-13 00:25
rxp isn't a component of UltraMon.
You might find out more about this service/driver by taking a look at the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\rxp' if it exists. The ImagePath value shows the filename of the service/driver.
I have now tested with SP2 RC2 as well, and so far haven't noticed any issues with UltraMon.
BTW, DebugView actually works fine on RC2, even though you get the 'not supported version of Windows' message during startup.

Chris,
I had looked up the information for the driver already in the registry, but research on it turned up nothing.
The image path for RXP is: \??\C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\rxp.sys
I am not sure why the DebugView isnt working on my system either...but if this starts up again real soon (the smartbar problem) I will be sure to find out what I can. It will also be a dead give away tho if that rxp.sys fails to load again when I start having the problem.
|
Christian Studer 2004-07-13 04:41
rxp.sys seems to be part of RAV AntiVirus.

DemoUser 2004-07-13 07:28
hmmm have never used a product from them. I have always run Symantec AV Corp on my network here. Very odd, going to do a little more investigation.
|
DemoUser 2004-07-13 07:30
I also notice on ravantivirus.com that they were aquired by Microsoft...I wonder if this rxp.sys is something added into SP2 for XP...
|
Christian Studer 2004-07-13 07:40
rxp.sys isn't on my XP SP2 RC2 install.
Does the file have version information under properties?
Christian Studer - www.realtimesoft.com
|
DemoUser 2004-07-13 08:24
Thats the funny thing...i cannot locate that file anywhere.
I have found a way to recreate the problem everytime tho, so that is good news kind of.
When I add applications for "No Custom Buttons" such as Trillian messenger and hit ok then my smart taskbar disappears and will not return. Debug view does not pick up any activity. Removing the settings for trillian don't make any difference. Looks like I will have to clear out the profile again to fix it.... :(
Might just try the realtime soft folder in my profile this time if there is one.
Thanks.

UltraMon (including the Smart Taskbar) gets restarted after changing this setting, looks like restarting the Smart Taskbar fails for some reason.
Unfortunately there's no way to tell why if there are no error messages in DebugView.

DemoUser 2004-07-14 08:19
Bummer...OK, well I won't spend the money yet until I can figure out where the problem lies or maybe when the new 3.0 version comes out it won't have this compatiblity problem with whatever is on my system that it doesn't like. Thanks for your time.

Matt 2004-07-28 06:35
Well I seem to be having the same problem, this is with version 2.5, though I never got the Smart Taskbar to work on my XP system, it worked fine in Win 2000. I'll see if I can get you debugging info.
|
Matt 2004-07-28 06:37
Ah, luckily your trick of resetting the Smart Taskbar settings through regedit worked!
|
Ross 2004-08-30 07:39
FYI - this forum message shows that rvx.sys is needed by Starskin: Belchfire
|
Ross 2004-08-30 07:43
Doh... make that rxp.sys...

Tim 2004-11-25 00:18
I have the same "rxp" event log (boot-up driver not loading) I have found the file in windows xp search (*.rxp) it seams to be a Roxio playlist file! I have Roxio 6 installed! I had Starskin installed but recently removed it, including any remnants from the registry. I also went into the device manager and clicked on "show hidden devices", rxp shows up as a non plug-n-play driver. I'm betting on the Roxio playlist file! hope this helped!
