I haven't been able to reproduce this issue, I tested with Corel Painter 8, UltraMon 2.5 and Windows XP SP1.
Minimizing an image window either by clicking the minimize button or via the menu worked fine.
Does the problem go away if you close UltraMon (UltraMon menu > Close)?
