Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Screen orientation change on with Screensaver

I love UltraMon and can not live without it. I've been using it at my office and at home for over a year and can not live without it. I recently got a new computer at the office (Laptop) and, of course, UltraMon was one of my first installs. My problem is new to me and I am confused as to how to resolve it. I have the screens oriented in a vertical fashion (2 monitors on top of each other). Everything works fine until after the screen saver goes on. Once move the mouse to pull the system out of the screen saver it has re-organized my displays. They are still on top of each other, but the top monitor is to the side.

See ASCII diagram below.

Before Screen saver:
---
1
---
2
---

After Screen saver:
---
1
|---|---|
2
---

I have not configured the system any differenty than previous machines as far as I can tell, but obviously something is going on.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Opps, ASCII didn't work.

After Screen saver:

Thanks again!

Maybe it's due to the specific screen saver you are using, please try if you have the same problem with the following configuration:

- Beziers assigned to the primary monitor, preview mode not checked

Thanks for the response. I tried it and see the same thing. What actually happens is after I move the mouse to turn the screensaver off there is a visable flash on my top monitor as it adjusts itself to it's new and wrong position.

Any other thoughts?

For further troubleshooting, please check if you still have the problem when configuring the screen saver as follows:

1) select Windows Display Properties from the UltraMon menu

2) change to the Screen Saver tab

3) select Beziers from the list of screen savers, and enable password protection (on Windows XP, the option is called 'on resume, display welcome screen')

Still no go. Screensaver goes on, I move the mouse and type my password to unlock the system and I see a distinct flash on my upper monitor as it moves the display.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks for you continued help.

My guess would be that it's an issue with the video card driver, or a video card utility.

Make sure you have the latest video card driver. If this doesn't fix the problem, check if you have any video card-related software running, and disable it temporarily using msconfig.exe.

Technical details:

it looks like switching to a different desktop for the screen saver causes the problem.

Standard screen savers do this when password protection is enabled, and the UltraMon screen saver does it with or without password protection enabled.

You can verify this by setting Beziers as your screen saver but without password protection enabled. If the problem goes away, this would indicate that some software, most likely the video card driver or a video card utility, have a problem with switching between different desktops.

I have got exactly the same problem on my notebook, a Thinkpad A31p with the Ati FireGL 7800 and the latest drivers. The problem does not happen if I use one of the standard screen savers, so for now I have simply disabled the Ultramon screen saver.

Do you still have the problem when running Beziers via UltraMon, or when using password protection with Beziers?
