Hi

I've only been using Ultramon a short time but I've got the following question on usability.

I've got 2 x 19" TFT flatscreens. I've enabled the second one OK. However, the windows taskbar only appears on my primary monitor. I can turn on the smartbar and it (the smartbar) will appear on the second monitor. However, I'd rather use the standard windows taskbar but have it spanning the two monitors - as it did before I installed Ultramon and enabled the secondary display. The primary functionality I want from Ultramon is the maximise to desktop feature. This seems like a fairly standard request, but I've been unable to achieve it yet.

Cheers!

UltraMon does not support stretching the Windows taskbar.

There are two ways to do this:

- if both monitors are connected to the same video card, you could use the video card's span mode instead of standard multi-monitor mode (if available). In this mode, Windows thinks you only have a single large monitor, and the taskbar will be stretched across both monitors

- if you have an Nvidia video card, enable the option to stretch the taskbar in the nView Desktop Manager

I have found a third choice in getting a task bar to appear across you second monitor. I have been using a small freeware program called "MultiMon taskbar" . This program allow you to have a second task bar while running two monitor in the standard dual mode.

here is the website address for the freeware download

ultramon also supports additional taskbars, albeit w/o the system clock which multimon displays.

but if you re-read the original post however, the user is asking about the original windows taskbar, not about ultramon or multimon taskbars.

I have a ATI Fire GL V3100 video card and am using ultra mon version 2.5.22.0. I do not have a span on that card. What I am trying to do is have the task bar go all across the two monitors. I do not care if it is done with smart taskbar or the windows taskbar. I just want it were it fills up the applications on the first screen first and then runs it over to the second screen. If possible I would also like to have it two icons high.

Information on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

This can't be done with UltraMon.

The Smart Taskbar supports two modes, the default mode where each taskbar only shows tasks from the monitor it is on, and mirror mode, where each taskbar shows all tasks.
