This could happen for several reasons:
- another application updates the wallpaper, for example Webshots or a virtual desktop manager. Disabling the application should fix the problem
- issue with the video card driver: several users reported problems with missing wallpapers, upgrading to the latest version of the video card driver fixed the problem
