I have several users that are experiencing the same problem. The only common thing among them is Windows XP SP2 and Ultramon. All of these systems were configured (unfortunately, by my predecessor) and working properly. At different times over the past three months one system at a time the monitors would start swapping position at boot. The desktop problem was easily solved by swapping the connections. Unfortunately, a couple of the users use laptops (only thing in common with them is being HPs) and you cannot swap the outputs. Most of the affected users have an LCD monitor on the left of their laptop. One day at boot both UltraMon and Windows Display Porperties show the laptop on the left and the monitor on the right. I can move the position and it is fine until a reboot. I have tried setting up a display profile, but it causes our Citrix window to open on the laptop screen in a window that is 2048x768. And since the primary monitor is on the right, the window extends into infinity. Which is more annoying than a major problem. I have tried every way I can find to swap the monitor position and I cannot get it to stay that way on any of the users computers.

Unfortunately I don't know what might cause this.
If you set the external monitor as primary, via the software for the video chipset, does it stay primary after a reboot?
If yes, you could then use an UltraMon display profile to position the secondary monitor if necessary.

When I set the external as the primary, it stays even after a reboot. I cannot setup a display profile because it causes problems with some of our Citrix programs. The user is fine with the new setup, since his mouse pointer moves between screens correctly. Thanks for the reply. If i figure out what is happening to cause this I will let you know.

Harold, I have had this problem intermittently. I'm trying to recall the precise solution, but I am pretty sure that it involved setting the primary and secondary monitors not in UltraMon, but with my Intel Graphics Display utility.
Hope this helps.
