Is this regkey still valid? (yes, I did copy it to the new Ultramon\3.0 tree)

I love the way Smart Taskbar no longer gets confused about which monitor IE and Outlook are on, but without the legacy behavior I can't switch, at least on my work machines...we use Remote Desktop heavily.

This option is no longer supported.

Would a hotkey or similar to bring the taskbar to the top work for you?

Not really. The taskbar is a mouse UI.

I suppose I could map a hotkey to a mouse button (I do this for "move to next monitor") but I'm running out of buttons :) Also, having to click a button is still a far cry from just flicking the mouse to the bottom of the screen.

I'm surprised I'm in the minority here. Being able to seamlessly switch between windows regardless of which computer they're on is fantastic for RD usability. Is there a way to change the taskbar behavior based on which app is being fullscreened? I.e. keep the new behavior for games, but use the legacy behavior for mstsc.exe?

That would be a possibility, but it would need to be an option anyway.

Some users didn't like having the taskbar pop up in remote sessions because it interfered with the use of the remote taskbar.

Ok, back to the idea of some mouse gesture to bring the taskbar to the front. How about clicking on the main taskbar? Or on the Ultramon tray icon?

That would also be possible, but I think if the feature gets added I would probably go with the approach you mentioned previously, seems to be the best solution.

Default would be that the taskbar stays hidden for all fullscreen apps, but you could configure exceptions for specific applications.

Ok. I'm not sure if the hard part is bringing the taskbar to the front or trapping the mouse event. I assumed from your first comment that trapping was the hard part, i.e. hooking a simple hotkey would be easier. If that's not the case, then ignore my most recent suggestions: I'd much rather use gestures as before than click an icon on another monitor.

Thanks for your flexibility. I will also explore workarounds (eg running RD windows manually "maximized" instead of fullscreen).
