Since last week, when I changed the wallpapers in my two monitors, the wallpapers set up by UltraMon disappear just after log in. When I log in, the wallpaper appears for a couple of seconds, but after UltraMon starts, it disappears turning into the blue blackground. If I manually set up the wallpaper again using UltraMon, it all goes back to normal, until I log out and log in again, when it all happen again. I am running UltraMon x64 2.7.1 on Windows XP Professional x64. Until last week it all worked fine.

I'm not sure what would cause this, one thing you could try is disabling automatic wallpaper updating, the option is under UltraMon menu > Wallpaper > Options, 'adjust wallpaper when display configuration changes'.

I am afraid that does not solve the problem. When I log in the whole desktop "blinks" a couple of times, and in one of those the wallpaper disappears. I noticed that though UltraMon and Display Properties have the right wallpaper set, nView Desktop Manager had the default (blank), so I tried setting up the nView one as well, but the problem persists: after the wallpaper "blinks" out, all the wallpapers (UltraMon, Display Properties and nView) are reset to the blank wallpaper.

Maybe the issue is due to the nView Desktop Manager, I would recommend trying if the problem goes away if you disable the nView Desktop Manager.

But if I disable nView, wouldn't I loose the dual-head monitor support, hence making UltraMon useless?

No, multiple monitors will still work fine.
The nView Desktop Manager is utility software similar to UltraMon, and isn't required to use multiple monitors.

Thanks! Disabling nView seems to have solved the problem.

I am having the same issue under Vista Premium and I dont have the Nview Dekstop installed, I even installed the current nvidia drivers (and uninstalled previous) to see if this would correct the problem and it does not. It seems it sets the wallpapers to (none) at reboot from (default). Running a GeForce 8800 GTX. Any ideas?

Do you have DreamScene installed and enabled? That would also override the UltraMon wallpaper.

I had this same problem running UltraMon 2.7.1.0. I tried unchecking the updating box and didn't have the NView desktop software installed. Neither helped. What finally fixed it was upgrading to the 3.0 beta version.

Subject: Wall Paper on both Monitors went bye-bye. For near the last three weeks I have been trying to reinstall my Wall Paper on my Monitors. When I first installed UltraMon, I was using Internet Explorer 7. The install and set up went fine. However, I had been having several problems with IE7, so I finally bit the bullet. I changed over to FireFox. There is a lot to like about FireFox, but I have a couple issues that Chap my Lips. And one of them impacted UltraMon 2.x.x.x. Two weeks ago, FireFox did an overnight update. Well, FireFox worked fine after the update and reboot, however, I had lost my wallpapers, a different one for each monitor. Since then I have been doing all kinds of things to get the wallpaper to install, but all attempts were failures. Keep in mind that I am not considered to be a Computer Geekette, so to speak. Thus, this has been a slow a frustrating adventure. I kept saying that I was sure that the FireFox update caused the problem. My Partner kept convincing me it did not. Today I finally logged into the UltraMon Forums. I found several different messages however, I struck gold when one of the folks indicated they fixed their problem by installing UltraMon Beta 3. So I tried it. SUCCESS!!!!! Not only was I able to install my wallpaper with out hitch, I can now see all of the wallpapers stored in the Display Settings. So, Ultramon might be and update for Vista, but it sure fixed my problem. As a close. I went ahead and tried something to see if my being sure that the FireFox update caused my problem. I reinstalled UltraMon 2.x.x.etc along with IE7. Guess what, there were not any wallpaper going away instances. But they returned when I reinstalled FireFox. I have now reinstalled Beta 3 (For Vista) and peace and content are mine. Thats my story and I'm Stickin'-To-It.

I have nView on my system but it is disabled, running ultramon 3.0.2 and my wallpaper doesn't show up. It does initially but then vanishes after bootup. I'm using the latest beta drivers from nvidia (169.21) on an 8800 GTX 768. Any ideas? Turning off update in UM did nothing.
Do I need to get rid of nView entirely somehow? It isnt enabled and I don't see a way to uninstall it anyway.
Thanks..

Is the UltraMon wallpaper still set as the active wallpaper under Display Properties > Desktop after the reboot?

Yeah its set and is on Tile. I've done everything suggested in the forums thus far. I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm a 3d artist so wallpaper isn't THAT important to me, just looks cool and I hate not being able to figure stuff out haha.

One thing i forgot to mention was that I use XP classic style as my theme because I hate the colorful normal XP style. Could that be causing the problem?
|
Christian Studer 2008-03-26 12:20
Seems unlikely that this would be due to classic style. One user who had the same problem reported that installing the latest drivers for his video card fixed the problem for him, might be worth a try.

Cool thanks. I'll try to see if a revert to non-beta drivers helps. Although I can't keep the original drivers due to technological issues with work, I want to see and report if that fixes it.

You don't have to play a BLOODMONEY! certain way; the game just gives you the tools and lets you choose how to use them. That freedom is what makes each task unique.
