Forums -> UltraMon™ -> IE very CPU intensive if new taskbar enabled

Running Windows XP Pro, 2 monitors on nVidia GeForce 2MX and Matrox Mystique.

If I enable the new taskbar feature of UltraMON 2beta5 on the 2nd monitor - and then drag an Internet Explorer window onto that monitor, explorer.exe starts using about 20% CPU time and ICQ (which is still on the primary monitor) will use about 10%. This is a multi-processor system by the way.

This behaviour is only showing if the new taskbar is enabled and if there is an IE window on the 2nd monitor. Outlook or other programs can be there just fine, but as soon as an IE window is moved to that screen, explorer.exe and icq.exe will start using a lot of CPU time.

Has anyone else seen this? It seems very strange - perhaps an issue only showing on multi-processor systems?

I am using the newest nVidia DetonatorXP drivers and standard Windows XP Matrox drivers. Both monitors are running 1024*768*32@75hz. Active desktop is enabled but that makes no difference - I checked :)

I've tried shutting down all other programs, but it still happens (though not with icq.exe then, but explorer.exe). If I shut down explorer.exe and then start it again (run command in the task monitor) it will start using processor time again right away (if the IE window is placed on the 2nd monitor again).

Any ideas?

TIA,

- Soren

This seems to be an XP-specific issue. I have the problem on my own system (XP, also dual CPU), and have also received similar reports from other XP users.

The problem will be fixed in Beta 6.
