Forums -> UltraMon™ -> taskbars are inverted versus monitors

Hi,
my setup is as follows:
Win XP Pro - UltrMon version 2.7.1.0
Laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad) + external flat screen (external)

I have just setup the laptop as the primary monitor and flat screen as secondary.

The reason I did that is in the hope that when I unplug the flat screen when taking the laptop on a business trip for example, the "transition" from 2 monitors to 1 does not screw up the icon positions, screen resolution, etc. I am yet to find a way of very "transitioning" smoothly between laptop screen only and dual screen as above, without to have to go through some manual configuration changes, etc.

I thought that setting the laptop screen as primary may help this so called "transition". No idea if it will. (This "swap" between primaru and secondary could also be completely useless but I am really a newbie as far as to the intricacies of dual monitors, etc. Comments on the value or lack of, of having made that "swap"?)

HOWEVER, this swap between primary and secondary has now created a NEW problem where my taskbars (smart taskbar is enabled with each monitor to show tasks only pertaining to itself): the taskbars are INVERTED meaning that the MAIN taskbar is set to the primary monitor (the laptop) and that is good; BUT programs now running on the falt screen (secondary) show up in the taksbar of the laptop screen, and vice versa--so it is opposite.

This is really annoying and I really need to fix it.

Can you please provide directions on how to fix?

Any other comments as to my above setup and how to run it smoothly would be appreciated.

Thanks.

OK. one comment on my original post:

I have fixed it but creating a new taskbar for Monitor 2 and closing the duplicate Monitor 1 taksbar that I had created in Monitor 1 and dragged over to Monitor 2. I had not really understood the process obviously.

So all is fine now--the taskbars are back to displaying what I want, etc.

I would still very much appreciate any insightful comments as to how to quickly switch from dual setup to laptop only--and I cannot seem to be able to use the Lenovo ThinkPad built-in feature to switch monitors or configure monitors--that feature seems to be really inept (as far as I can tell) in the Lenovo. Then again, it could be me that is inept ;)

Always keeping the internal monitor as primary is a good idea, this will keep the monitor numbers the same which is important for some UltraMon features, for example the Smart Taskbar, wallpapers and display profiles.

OK great.
I think I'm OK for now.

I too am having the "inverted taskbar" problem. My Start button is on the top left of monitor1 (which is the primary monitor and to the left of monitor2), yet all programs on monitor1 appear on the monitor2 taskbar and vice-versa.

It is rather annoying -- my start button and icons are on the left on monitor1, but whatever program I am running on monitor1 appear on the Ultramon smart taskbar on monitor2.

Can you please give step by step instructions on how to fix this?

Many thanks,

ac

ok, I just fixed it too.

The trick is to notice that by right-clicking on the smart taskbar the first option is "show task from" and from that list you un-check monitor1 and check monitor2.

super easy... just had not seen that option before.
