Hello

After using UltraMon I found I can't live without it and have registered. Makes using multimonitors so much easier. Thanks for this application!

But...

I'm having a problem with some screensavers. I have this setup:

Graphics Card: Radeon X1650
Main Monitor: Hyundai N220W DVI (connected to the digital port)
Secondary Monitor: Philips 150B (15" LCD)
OS: Windows Vista Business

The Taskbar and Move to Monitor functions are working perfectly.

The trouble is when I try to setup a combination of the BOINC screensaver on the main monitor and the HAL9000 on the secondary.

1. HAL9000 does not work. The secondary monitor screensaver "preview mode" is activated and greyed out so that it cannot be unselected. I get only (and not even that) the prewiev picture on screen, not the screensaver.

2. The BOINC screensaver works, but I have to do a CTRL-ALT-DEL to get back to the desktop (it is enough to get to the selection of the taskmanager and then to leave it, no need to stop the screensaver application)

I can get both screensavers to work normally on their own as standalone screensavers and I can also get the supplied screensavers from Vista to work each on a screen with UltraMon.

I would like to know if what I am trying to do is not possible :-( or if there is a workaround (I am particularly wondering why the greyout of "preview mode" on the secondary monitor).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Svend

dang, forgot to add that the 15" Philips is connected to the VGA port. There is only one graphics card.

UltraMon uses the screen saver's preview mode to run it on a secondary monitor.

If the screen saver doesn't have a preview mode, or only displays a static picture, it won't work on secondary monitors via UltraMon.

Regarding the BOINC screen saver: do you have the 'preview mode' option checked? Does the screen saver work fine if you don't assign a screen saver to the secondary monitor?

Thanks for the very fast reply!

The HAL 9000 screensaver is now in a version with preview... but it doesn't work on dual monitors, as stated on the developers website. OK, will have to wait for the next version.

Will try out the settings for the BOINC saver, as it still seems to loock up the system if there is another saver on the secondary monitor.

BTW, the overcool Hal900 screensaver can be found here:

Thanks again for the fast support!

I had BOINC working on a secondary monitor just fine until I upgraded to the latest beta (3.0.2). Now all I get is the primary monitor's screen saver across both monitors. I think I will revert to the previous beta.

If I run BOINC on the primary monitor there are times when it will freeze up and force me to reboot to get my primary monitor back (or VNC in from another machine and kill BOINC). On a secondary monitor this doesn't happen.

Do you have the 'preview mode' option checked for the screen saver assigned to the primary monitor?

I see that I can limit the primary screensaver to one monitor by checking this. Unfortunately reverting to an earlier version of UltraMon isn't fixing things. It must have been a graphics driver update. I did have BOINC running in my secondary monitor since the December beta of UltraMon though. I'm just not sure how...
