Easy to reproduce if you have the game

Start Enemy Territory: Quake Wars in windowed mode
With multiple monitors and with UltraMon running

I am running an nVidia 7800GTX
It is recommended by the guys over at the ETQW forum
That (for nVidia cards) "Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration" be set to "Single display performance mode" for the ETQW executable
The default is "Multiple display performance mode"

However with either setting I am still getting mouse lag
i.e. The mouse takes around half a second to respond to inputs, rather than immediately
This happen in both the menu's and whilst playing

After some time I narrowed it down to UltraMon
i.e. If UltraMon isn't running when ETQW is launched, then no lag

The lag also disappears if UltraMon is restarted whilst ETQW is running

So my (hopefully temporary) workaround of restarting UltraMon seams to be working for now
But maybe you could look into what causes this
With a view to fixing it

Just to let you know this is with ETQW retail version 1.2
There is a planned release of a new patch (1.4) expected very soon
Maybe this will be sorted out from their side
But I felt I should make this post anyway

Also in game there is only one CVar to set that controls mouse input, "m_rawInput"
Its description is: "use Raw Input API for mouse input"
The values it can take are 0 or 1 with a default of 1
But again either of these values has no effect with regards to reducing the mouse lag that is present when UltraMon is running

Hopefully this is clear enough for you to reproduce the issue

Is this on Vista? If yes, what happens if you restart UltraMon immediately after system startup, then launch the game?

Vista Ultimate 32-bit RTM

Here are some tests I did:

- Reboot Windows
- Restart UltraMon
- Start ETQW
= Mouse Lag

- Reboot Windows
- Start ETQW
- Stop ETQW
- Restart UltraMon
- Start ETQW
= Mouse Lag

- Reboot Windows
- Restart UltraMon
- Start ETQW
- Stop ETQW
- Restart UltraMon
- Start ETQW
= Mouse Lag

- Reboot Windows
- Start ETQW
- Restart UltraMon
= No Mouse Lag

- Reboot Windows
- Start ETQW
- Restart UltraMon
- Stop ETQW
- Start ETQW
= No Mouse Lag

Essentially it only removes the mouse problem if UltraMon is restarted whilst the game is running
But once UltraMon has been restarted a new instance of ETQW will be fine

Please try if disabling window buttons, menu commands and dragging of maximized windows for the game fixes the problem. You can do this via UltraMon Options > Compatibility.

After testing each option under compatability mode as suggested
The problem disappears when:
disable window buttons is checked

Just to let you know by default I have:
move window button enabled
maximize to desktop button disabled

Hope this helps you to narrow down the cause

Any more luck in fixing this?
Or must I keep "disable window buttons" checked forever?

Do you still have this problem with 3.0.2?

I have a similar problem with running World of Warcraft on XP with the current Beta of UltraMon (3.0.2). If adding either Move Window or Maximize to Desktop buttons are enabled, while WoW is running, game framerate is significantly reduced, and there is significant mouse lag. This is either in the XP UI or the game itself. The game is in windowed mode.

UltraMon is unable to set special configuration for wow.exe, as it appears to not see it as a currently running application.

This did not appear to be a problem in 3.0.0 (which I had previously installed). This is also not a problem with the 2.7.1.

I just tested a 3.0.1 install, and it is also a problem there. Returning to 2.7.1 (since 3.0.0 crashed a lot for me, although 3.0.2 never crashed.)

My primary monitor is on "adapter" 1, on the right hand side of my dual monitor setup. I have a Ati Radeon x600 video card.

Mark, you can still set up custom settings for the application, to do this click on the Browse button of the Select Application dialog.

I'll look into this for the next release.

I have now tested with both Enemy Territory Quake Wars and World of Warcraft, but so far haven't been able to reproduce the issue with mouse lag.

Testing was done on 64-bit Vista with demo versions of the games, running in windowed mode, and WoW was also tested on 32-bit XP.

I'm also not sure what would cause this, some things you could check:

- when this happens, open Task Manager, select the Processes tab and check if UltraMon.exe is using lots of CPU

- does the problem go away if you close other applications you have running?
