I created a display profile for the settings I prefer when I have my laptop docked and a profile for the undocked settings. The problem is, I have no way of activating the profile. When I click on it in the menu, It does nothing. What's the deal?

Windows Vista with Nvidea GeForce Go 7600
Only 2 monitors used total

Have you tried right-clicking the icon in your taskbar?

Are the monitor numbers in the display profiles correct?

Usually on laptops changing the primary monitor will also change the monitor numbers (the primary always remains #1), which can cause problems for the display profiles.

yeah, the monitor numbers are definately correct. I double checked my double check.

Can you change the display settings via UltraMon menu > Display Settings?

Yeah, that is no problem. Its just applying profiles does not seem to work.
Christian Studer   2008-02-24 23:25
I'm not sure what would cause this. What happens if you create a profile which only changes the resolution of the primary monitor, does that work?

No go, doesn't work. Ultramon simply won't apply profiles.

Maybe the file extension didn't get registered, if you select Display Profiles > Manage Display Profiles from the UltraMon menu, then right-click one of the display profiles, do you get an Edit option on the menu?

I don't get an edit option... but if I hit open, Windows asks me to select the program with which to open it.

Looks like the file extension for the display profile files didn't get registered, repairing your UltraMon installation should fix the problem.

To do this, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, select UltraMon, then click on Repair.

That did not fix the problem. Is there a way to manually register the files? I'm pretty comfortable with REGEDIT if that is a necessity.
Christian Studer   2008-03-07 10:36
I have uploaded a .reg file which registers the file types: ProfilesAndShortcuts.reg

Most likely there's a permission problem or some security software which prevents UltraMon from registering the file types.

Good news!

after a LOT of trying to figure out how to get around Vista's lockedown registry, I was finally able to add the keys you posted.

If I double click on the profile file itself, it will successfully change my display settings. However, Ultramon will not do this from its-right click menu.
Mnftg64   2008-03-07 13:31
Okay, I lied. After rebooting, it went back to what it was before, however I have double checked the registry and everything is set as it should be...

Sorry for the triple post (there is no edit feature on this forum dangit)

This is odd. If I right click on a profile and select open with ultramonshortcut.exe, it works. If i select to always open with ultramonshortcut.exe, it will not work upon double click.

isn't that strange?

Along with this, ultramon still will not run the profile from its right-click menu.

Unfortunately I don't know what would cause this, if you have any security software running I would recommend disabling it and testing if you still have the problem.

No go... Who knows... When the final version comes out, I'll do a complete uninstall- reinstall and maybe that will fix the issue.
