Forums -> UltraMon™ -> How can I preserve position of desktop shortcuts on dual monitors after remote desktop connection?

I posted the below on another forum and someone directed me to UltraMon, but I don't immediately see how UltraMon would help. Can someone please elaborate?

==================================================

I have dual monitors set up on my Windows XP Pro machine, such that each monitor serves as a desktop rather than functioning as one giant desktop -- if I maximize a window it will maximize only within the monitor on which it appears, for example. More relevant to my question, each monitor can have its own set of desktop shortcuts so that if I auto-arrange, the icons on the left stay on the left, the icons on the right stay on the right. I like it that way.

BUT ... when I log into my PC after accessing it via Remote Desktop Connection (where only one screen appears), all the icons get moved to the left screen (or primary screen, the one that has the Start button etc.).

So my question is, is there any way to configure my monitor settings or RDC settings such that this does not happen? So that the icons remain where I left them prior to any RDC access?

UltraMon can save and restore icon positions, there are also several other applications which can do this, for example PowerStrip.
