Been using Adobe Reader 9.44 and Ultramon 3.10 (3 monitors) with no problems. When I switched to Reader X (V10.01?) two problems appeared. The first was the button issue which the compatibility setting fixed. The second is a problem with opening multiple PDFs for viewing. First PDF opens fine. After that it is very difficult to open another PDF. Either nothing happens or if I make multiple attempts it sometimes opens after a long delay. I know it's related to Ultramon because if I exit Ultramon completely then multiple PDFs open normally. Anyone else see this problem? Any Suggestions. Using Windows XP Pro and I've switched back to reader 9.44 for now.

I've been able to reproduce the issue on 32-bit XP, as a workaround you could disable window buttons, menu commands and dragging of maximized windows for Adobe Reader via UltraMon Options > Compatibility.
I'm not sure if there's a fix for this, on my second XP test system the issue occurs also without UltraMon running, most likely caused by another application which uses hooks; UltraMon uses hooks for window buttons, menu commands and dragging of maximized windows.
This issue does not occur on Windows 7 (only tested on the 64-bit version).

Thanks for looking into it. I'm also using 32-bit XP. I forgot to mention that the issue exists even if secondary monitors are disabled. Just having Ultramon loaded causes the PDF issue on my system. Anyway I didn't leave reader X installed long enough to see if other programs caused a problem... just reverted to reader 9.44 which plays nice with Ultramon. Reader X is fairly new so if it's also a problem with other programs maybe it's an Adobe issue and will spawn an update. Unless you come up with something I'll wait for a reader update then try it again. I would hate losing the ability to drag maximized PDF windows... one of the reasons I got Ultramon. I've been very happy with your product (except for this new glitch of course) and have recomended it to a number of people.

That's a really specific issue! It definitely sounds like a conflict between Reader X and Ultramon. The multiple attempts/long delay thing is super frustrating. Hmm, makes me think of those levels in Slope Game, where you're constantly dodging obstacles with split-second timing! I'm not sure of a fix, but maybe try updating Ultramon to the latest version? Compatibility issues are often ironed out in updates. Good luck finding a solution!

seem frustrating! Issues like that often pop up when newer Adobe versions clash with multi-monitor tools. Good call reverting to 9.44 for stability—hopefully Ultramon or Adobe patches address the conflict soon.

I tried one method: go to UltraMon Options > Compatibility, and disable some options related to windows or dragging maximized windows to see if it improves.
Alternatively, try downgrading Adobe Reader to version 9.x to see if it's more stable (the OP himself reverted and found it more stable).

I’ve seen similar issues with Reader X on XP—Adobe changed how instances and background processes work, which can conflict with UltraMon’s window management. Disabling “Enable Protected Mode” in Reader X sometimes helps. For unrelated downtime reading, I’ve even noticed odd ads like ai girlfriend 18+ popping up lately—feels out of place on tech forums.
