Foren -> Multiple monitors -> My secondary card doesn't work

I am using rendition v2200 as the primary card. It works well. When I try to install my secondary card, which i s a Cirrus Logic 5446, the problems begin. The following message appears (for the cirrus card in device manager): "Windows will attempt to restart without checking your computer's hardware."

I am using win98 second edition.

What does this mean? What is the problem?

I would greatly appreciate any help

What happens if you reboot? Does Windows disable the secondary card?

The same message appears even after rebooting ("Windows will attempt to restart without checking your computer's hardware.")

There is an exclamation mark in device manager, but there are no conflicts.... only that message.

The cirrus card will only function as a primary card. I found that out after I switched the two cards (changed slots). The problem is I don't want cirrus to be the primary card - it should be secondary.

I have the exact same problem. I'm using a Diamond Viper V770 Ultra as primary card, and a Matrox Millennium II as secondary. The only way it will work is by switching the cards, but I want the Viper to be the primary video card... There has to be a way around this, please help...

I had a similar problem with my current setup under windows 2000, (i dont know if this is relevent, but its worth a try) 3D prophet (GeForce) & viper 330 (riva 128), and the same problem with my old setup (GeForce & s3 Virge). the s3 problem is a documented problem, so there was nothing i could really do, but the problem with the riva128 and the GeForce was that i had ASSIGN IRQ TO VGA set to "no" in my bios (dont know why?). in 98 I had no problems, only when i went into 2000 did i have the problem. so while its not the same as yours, perhaps there is a connection?

I get the same message with my secondary card (S3 Virge64V+ PCI). I have an ATI Rage Fury 128 (32MB) in my AGP slot which I want to act as my primary card - should this combination work?

Thanks,
BL.
