First let me say I love this application.

This is hard to pin down, but my general impression is that it's hogging resources and generally destabilising my system.

I have my main taskbar on monitor 2 and a smart taskbar on monitor 1. Applications on monitor 2 are generally OK, but monitor 1 becomes unstable if I have more than 2 apps open there. For instance, if I close an app, the icon stays on the smart taskbar. Open apps become inaccessible. Sometimes deselecting and reselecting Show Tasks from Monitor 1 will fix it, but only until I open a third app again.

Hope you can help, because I'm going to have to reluctantly scrap this otherwise

The Smart Taskbar issue sounds like a conflict with some other application. Please mail or post the following information:

- a screenshot or list of all running processes from Task Manager > Processes

- operating system used

- the system information displayed on UltraMon's About dialog (UltraMon menu > About)

- if you are using Nvidia video cards, the version of the display drivers you are using

Sorry - I'm not clear on Task Manager > Processes. My Task Manager doesn't have that option.

However, you've started me thinking, and I suspect it may be Webshots Desktop, which I'm going to turn off for 24 hours. I'll post back here and let you know.

To get a list of running processes on Windows 98/Me, try Microsoft's WinTop from the Win95 Kernel Power Toys.

I've stopped TClock and Rainlendar (a desktop calendar) and everything's much more stable. Registered my copy this morning.

Is the conflict with TClock (if that's what the problem is) likely to be fixed in v2 final?
Christian Studer   2002-10-30 07:59
So far I haven't been able to reproduce the problem.

Here's what I tested with:

- Windows 98
- UltraMon 2.0 RC2
- TClock 2.2.8 from http://homepage1.nifty.com/kazubon/tclock/index.html
- Rainlendar 0.13 from http://vapaa.dc.inet.fi/~rainy/Rainlendar.html

Up till now I've only run with both disabled. If I get a chance this weekend, I'll try one and the other. I can comfortably live without Rainlendar, because Webshots has a desktop calendar, but I do miss TClock.

I'll also check versions when I get home (I'm at work now). I've had TClock a long time and I've never checked for an update.

But wait - there's more!

I have my main taskbar on monitor 2 and a smart taskbar on monitor 1.

From time to time (and I can't pin this down to any particular app) when I close apps on monitor 1 the taskbar icons don't go away. I can fix it by right-clicking the smart taskbar, turning off Show Tasks from Monitor 1, and then turning it on again.

Doesn't seem to be related to any particular app, but does seem to occur after a long session.

Again, not a biggie, just an annoyance. Certainly doesn't override the good points.
